Declaration of Independence

When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for a people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We, the citizens of Zania, solemnly publish and declare that we are, and of right ought to be, a free and independent Micronation. We hereby dissolve all political connection between ourselves and any other nation or government, and we fully assume all powers and responsibilities of an independent state. As free and independent citizens, we have the right to establish our own government, create our own laws, and conduct our own affairs without interference.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all citizens are created equal, that they are endowed with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. To secure these rights, governments are instituted among people, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. Whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new governance, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.

We, therefore, the representatives of Zania, do hereby list our grievances and declare our reasons for seeking independence:

• We have been denied our rightful autonomy and self-governance.
• We have been subjected to unjust laws and regulations without our consent.
• Our attempts at peaceful negotiation and redress of grievances have been ignored.
• We have been deprived of our natural resources and economic opportunities.
• Our cultural and social values have been undermined and disrespected.

Therefore, we, the citizens of Zania, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the name and by the authority of the good people of Zania, solemnly publish and declare that Zania is, and of right ought to be, a free and independent Micronation; that we are absolved from all allegiance to any other nation or government, and that all political connection between us and any other state is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as a free and independent Micronation, we have full power to levy war, conclude peace, contract alliances, establish commerce, and to do all other acts and things which independent states may of right do.

In support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.
